All about the Climbing Mount Pico in Azores.

If there is one activity that travelers to Pico gush about, it is climbing the famous Mt Pico! Considered the highest mountain in Portugal and the third highest on the Atlantic at over 2300 meters, this is an unforgettable experience! More of a difficult hike than actual climbing, we do recommend this activity for participants who are physically fit and used to challenging and steep hikes. The ascent is pretty tough, but the rewards you will reap upon reaching the top are well worth the effort! We have created two distinct programs, the first of which is a full day (12 hours) up the mountain and back. The second experience, is a nocturnal climb, and finally we offer a day climb with overnight camping at the top of the mountain!

    1. Option 1 Day Climb

Your tour begins with transfers to the bottom of the mountain, where you will receive a safety briefing from your guide. From here we will take a short visit to the visitor center, where you will get a better idea of what to expect along the way – then it’s time to climb!

Though not standard rock climbing, the level of difficulty and rough navigation over volcanic stones, classifies this activity as a climb.

Arrival at the peak will reward you incredible views of the neighboring islands and of course fantastic photo opportunities! Then we begin the descent and upon reaching the end of your tour, we will transfer you back to Madalena

Included: Transfers t to the base of Mt. Pico, Short stop at the visitor centre, Mt. Pico national park fees, Guide services, Certificate of participation

What to bring: Ankle high hiking boots, Hiking pole (optional),  Sunscreen with high sun protection factor, Headgear (depending on the season a warm hat), Warm, layered outdoor clothing, 3 litres of water, Energy food such as glucose or cereal bars

    2. Option 2 Nocturnal Climb

The nocturnal climb works in very much the same way as the traditional climb, though we start a bit later and enjoy a spectacular sunset at the peak!

    3. Option 3 Overnight Climb

Why not do it all? Climb Mount Pico and enjoy overnight camping on one of the largest volcanoes of Europe!
